Boiled Down Juice

This weekend kicks off the first of several Arkansas seed swaps taking place around the state. The first one will take place February 9th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in Yellville.

Initiated by Conserving Arkansas’s Agricultural Heritage, these seed swaps bring together gardeners and anyone interested in heirloom seeds to talk plants, trade varieties, and make connections.

See the list below to find a seed swap in your area. And there is no need to have seeds to swap to attend! The event is open to everyone, including beginning gardeners wanting to learn more about the importance of heirloom gardening. The Boiled Down Juice is gathering space for budding conversations at the intersection of community-based traditions (widely defined) and holistic, democratic, anti-racist, place-based community action. We explore how the past intersects with the present and how we can use this information for a more just tomorrow. We're based in both rural and urbanArkansas, but are growing to cover topics in the greater south and beyond.

Thrown into the mix you’ll find posts about music, food, growing things and ideas, participatory research, what it means to call a place home, and the diverse ways humans express the art of daily life and engage in creative living.

Drawing from Zora Neale Hurston’s observation that “folklore is the boiled down juice of human living,” we strive to explore the ways in which the past interacts with the present and how we can grow collective futures.
