Today’s Friday Video continues recent discussions of the Federal Writers Project and the role it played in documenting American stories. (To read recent Seed and the Story columns about the FWP in central Arkansas go here).
Directed by Andrea Kalin, narrated by Academy Award-nominated actress Patricia Clarkson, and based on the book, Soul Of A People by David A. Taylor (more on this book in the near future) and features commentary from literary luminaries Studs Terkel, Stetson Kennedy, Douglas Brinkley and David Bradley. Includes stories from some of the projects most famous alums including Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, Zora Neale Hurstson, and John Cheever.
In upcoming posts we’d like to explore not only the history of this project but how it can influence, inspire, caution, and inform our work today. How have you been inspired by the FWP? What have you learned from its flaws? How can we channel the positive aspects of this work today? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
