A few months ago we posted about Little Rock Stories, a group working to document and share stories to help strengthen the Little Rock community. “We want people to share experiences and connect with others,” reads their project overview statement,”strengthening ties across the city and showing what their neighborhoods need to thrive.”
Initially the group sought out the financial assistance of a Goodmaker Grant and entered a crowd funding competition. The group didn’t receive the grant but is forging ahead without funding. The organization is a loose, democratic, and community-led group of people and not affiliated with a larger funding agency. Everyone is involved because of their love for the community and a passion to help it continue to become a diverse, healthy, and vibrant place to call home.
We’re partnering with the group and will be helping with the first Interview and Equipment Training coming up this weekend. The event will take place this Sunday, October 14 at 6:00 pm at the Theressa Hoover United Methodist Church at 4000 W. 13th St. Free parking is available in the lot on 12th and Cedar across from the church.
Anyone who is interested in sharing your stories, helping others share their stories, and/or getting involved in the LR Stories community story telling group, are invited and encouraged to come! No previous experience required. Please spead the word and tell your neighbors, friends, and community groups.
Topics covered will include:
- Interviewing tips and best practices
- Using a recording device
- Interactive interviewing practice
- Cataloging stories
~ Participants are encouraged to bring food and beverages for us to enjoy as we learn from each other. This will be a very interactive workshop wherein we’ll all be learning from one another.
If you have any questions, please call (501-951-3675) or email (email@example.com) Megan Strickland. An RSVP isn’t necessary, but it would be helpful to us to have a rough headcount, so if you plan to attend and/or bring a friend, please send Megan an email, call, or text.
Hope to see you there!
